QR Code Scanner Tutorial
All PIMDCON attendees will have an official event ID given to them as soon as they check in to the event. These QR codes will contain the attendee’s basic information that all sponsor booths will scan and collect using the correct tool, which we have provided below.
This short 4-step tutorial will teach you how to download, use, and properly save the data you collect at the event. You can read the instructions below or watch the video tutorial at the end of this page.
Requirements:
- Smartphone
Step 1. Download the Free QR Scanner app for your mobile device.
You must use a specific mobile app to scan and save the PIMDCON attendee QR codes. You can download the app using the links below.
Important note: You must not use any other QR scanning app for this event. The system was set up expressly to work with the scanning app mentioned above. If you do, your scanned data may not be usable after the event.
Step 2. Use the QR Scanner App to Scan Attendee QR Codes
All attendees will have an official event ID with their unique QR code. The QR codes contain each attendee’s first name, last name, and email that was used to signup for the conference. All you have to do to scan them is:
- Open the scanner app on your mobile device
- Open the scanner in the app
- Point your phone’s camera to the attendee’s QR code
That’s it! Each time the scanner app sees a QR code, it will scan and save the contents of the code automatically. As soon as the code is scanned, the app will display the contents of the code on the screen. After you see the contents on the screen, you can press the back button to return to the scanner and move on to the next attendee QR code.
Step 3. Download Scanned Data at the End of the Event
After the event is over (on the last day), you can now download and then save your scanned data on a computer.
All you need to do is:
- Open the QR scanner app
- Navigate to the “History” tab within the app
- Tap the three-dot button on the upper right-hand corner of the screen
- Tap the “TXT” button that appears
- Then press the share button that pops up and email yourself this “TXT” file or upload it to your preferred online storage service (E.g., Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, etc.).
Step 4. Convert Your Downloaded File to a Compatible Spreadsheet File
After you have downloaded your “TXT” file and have it on your computer, the last step is to convert it from a plain text file into a spreadsheet-compatible file. To do this, you can use this online file converter or use your computer’s default simple text editor application.
On Macs, the application is called “TextEdit.”
On Windows computers, this app is called “Notepad.”
The steps to follow are:
- Open your TXT file with your computer’s default simple text editor app.
- After the File is open in the application, save the File as a CSV file.
- For Macs, you must click File> Save > Then enter the filename that you want to give this File and at the end of the file name, add “.csv.” Then click save.
- For Windows, you must click File> Save as > Then change the file name ending from “.txt” to “.csv.” Then click save.
After successfully saving this file following the steps above, you will have a file you can open with your spreadsheet editor of choice (E.g., Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
